Marina Etrusca - The Starting Point to Uncovering the Tuscan Coast

One of the more modern ports in the region, Marina Etrusca is the preffered location of many sailors who fell in love with the fairytale hills of Tuscany. Not only because of its location which overlooks the Follonica Bay and indeed the whole Tuscan Archipelago, but also due to the quality of services offered.

Location & Approach
This small marina located near the town of Follonica on Italy’s western shores, corresponding to the region that geographers have named Tuscany, is the perfect place for setting up base when exploiring the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago: Argentario, Corsica and Sardinia. Also, there are other important islands nearby such as Elba island, Giglio and Capraia, all sought after destinations.

Actually, this small but modern marina is located in the village of Puntone, in the bay of Follonica, dominated on its northern side by the town of Piombino. The exact coordinates to the marina are lat. 42°53', 18N and long. 10°47', 09E. The entry point to the Marina Etrusca is pointing to the north, near a canal heading inland to the east. There are two breakwaters, a big circular one covering all the western side of the marina and a smaller, triangular-shaped one on the northeastern side. Both have elongated piers marked by flashing lights to warn oncoming skippers.

Infrastructure & Ambience
This chic looking marina has 564 berths plus an additional 400 storage space for those who wish to winter their boats here. The average depth of the berths is anywhere between 1.5 and 4.2 meters, which means that it’s equipped to handle even the largest boats. In fact, the admitted maximum length for incoming boats is 40m.
All berths are equipped with water and electricity lines and there is also a fuel pump station where you can refill your tank. Though it doesn’t have a travel lift, the Marina Etrusca does have a slide, a slipway and a crane, and does provide its v guests with technical assistance in case of needed repairs or breakdown.

There is also an extensive unpaid parking just outside the marina, but it’s not monitored or protected. Along the marina offices you’ll find facilities for boat rentals, from sailing boats to motor boats, from small watercraft to large cabin boats, crewed or not, everything to suit your tastes.

The whole region is famous for its agro touristic potential and facilities with small hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, golf courses, restaurants, wine bars and watersports facilities. It’s a great region to start exploring the Tuscany coast, famous throughout Italy, and really, throughout the world. Plenty of sailing opportunities await eager sailors on water to any of the islands of the archipelago, each one full of history and on land, a chance to explore the rustic charm of Tuscany, with its rolling hills and its endless vineyards and orchards.
