Karada Marina - Come Dive in the Azure Bays around Bodrum

Location & Approach
In western Turkey, on the southeastern side of the Bodrum peninsula lies the famous town of Bodrum where sailing enthusiasts can enjoy the Karada marina. This particular part of the Aegean is famous for its picturesque beauty, and this part of Turkey is famous for the historical relics, such as the Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.

The marina can be found just minutes of downtown Bodrum, in a small bay that is very well protected by two breakwaters strategically placed to cancel out any current of wind from out to sea. The part of the bay where the marina is located doesn’t pose significant dangers to approaching ships although the coast to the southwest is very fragmented and with promontories reaching out into the sea so the skipper should keep well away from the shore.

The entry point to the marina (37 ° 02'00'N 27 ° 25'50'E) is marked with flashing lights on both breakwaters, a green flashing light on the east breakwater and a red one on the western breakwater. The VHF channel being monitored by the marina is 73 and you should contact the staff prior to your arrival to get them to assist you with mooring your boat.

Infrastructure & Ambience
The Karada marina has 425 berths on the water and 50 dry docks for boats with a maximum length of 75m and a maximum beam of 7m. The waters of the bay are pretty deep which is why there is no draft limitation in effect here. All the berths are connected to electricity and water supply, but the marina staff offers much more: there is a marina office, internet connection, mail, telephone and fax services, map sailing point, weather and money exchange, excellent sanitary facilities (toilets and showers) and a laundry facility.

Within the marina grounds the client will find appropriate restaurants and cafes and if these are not up to your standard, you can always go into town where you can find a wide assortment of venues, from pizzerias to swanky dinning place. Among the other services being offered by the Karada marina there is a 24h a day security service, car park, chandlery, shopping center, first aid point and even a small clubhouse.

Boat repair facilities are also available with a range of maintenance services being performed. The facilities include a 70t crane, a slipway and a hoist. As you can see, the Karada marina covers pretty much every need of the intrepid seaman.

The Bodrum region is a great place to spend a holiday, especially if you’re into sailing and history. The ancient Mausoleum is located nearby as are other ancient ruins. The bays around Bodrum are famous diving sites and the varied sea life is present one of the most complete Nautical museums in Turkey. Also, the Bodrum nightlife is famous throughout the Aegean and is definitely worth checking out.
