JMC Marina Marigot – Excellent Repair Facilities

Well arranged and customer-oriented – this is how this small marina appears to its charter guests.

JMC Marina Marigot – Excellent Repair Facilities

Location & Approach
Not so much a marina as a repair yard, JMC Marina in Marigot Bay on Saint Martin island in the Caribbean does offer some basic services along with a small number of mooring places so it does qualify in that respect. regulars will probably remember that the island of Saint Martin is divided into 2 halves, one under French influence and the other under Dutch influence. Marigot Bay is on the eastern side of the island, on the French side.

The marina is located on a stretch of land that closes in the shallow, man-made Simpson Bay Lagoon, leaving just a small opening on the eastern side of the Sandy Ground to let vessels inside the lagoon. JMC marina is located near that entrance and thus it manages to offer excellent protection to the few mooring boats it can house.

The coordinates for the marina are 18°4.05'N63° 5.5' W. The approach isn’t that difficult since Baie de Marigot is a wide bay that sees a lot of nautical traffic every day. The only part of the approach a skipper has to mind is the narrow channel that makes the entry to the lagoon possible. It limits entry to boats with a draft bigger than 4m.

Infrastructure & Ambience
JMC marina & Boatyard has only 10 mooring places that are destined for vessels with a maximum length of 50m but a 3.9m maximum draft, due to the shallow waters of the lagoon. Mooring is provided with assistance and it should be mentioned that the languages spoken by the local staff are English, French and Spanish.

The main facilities for the marina, since it’s more a boat yard, are the lift out facilities. Here you can carry out a wide series of repairs on your boat at the different shops. Other than that, there’s really nothing else you can find on location. However, the distance to Marigot is fairly small and there you’ll find everything to satisfy your needs.

The French side of the island is less developed than the Dutch side where you’re likely to find high rise towers and casinos. On the French side however, there is more natural landscape about, not to mention that French class which seems to have imported from the mainland. The tourists can enjoy French meals, French shopping and French nightlife. Passage to either side is done undisturbed, since the border is merely a line drawn on the map here.
