In the Club Maritimo just opposite to the old town you will not have to worry about the swell coming up. Even at bad weather you can stay calm and dedicate yourself to the sightseeings of Mahon.
Location & Approach The locals call it “Mao”, but to regulars it’s known as Mahon, the capital of Minorca island. It’s located on the southeastern side of the island in a large, natural bay that also houses the Mahon Club Maritimo marina.
The bay takes on an elongated shape, going deep inland to form a safe harbor where boats can moor without fear of the Mediterranean currents. Actually, the bay is the longest natural harbor in the Meditrerranean at over 3 miles length. The marina is located at the following coordinates 39° 52'N - 04° 18'E, and arrivals are expected to contact the offices on radio channel 9.
The large natural harbor offers easy entrance, available in all kinds of weather, and, most importantly, it offers excellent protection once in the marina. That’s why, during the high season in summer, a free berth is a rare commodity and it’s wise to plan your trip in advance and make a reservation.
Infrastructure & Ambience 150 berths are at the disposal of any arrival, and once you moor (only a few berths are available for visitors) you quickly realize that the marina is ideally located for a number of services, such as provisioning or refueling.
Here are some of the amenities you can expect to find when mooring at this marina: you’ll get drinking water and electricity at the berth, maintenance and repairs for your boat at the boat yard which has a 50t travel lift, a 12t crane and a shipping canal, toilets and hot showers with changing rooms, a restaurant, a supermarket, a laundry service and a bank in the neighborhood.
The Club Maritimo is one of the 4 marinas in Menorca, which is famed for its beaches. Though not the biggest, the marina does compensate with its safe position which also puts the sailor in the middle of town thus giving him plenty opportunities when it comes to services.
The best time to visit Menorca is between June and September, when the weather is lovely and water temperatures get to comfortable values. It’s then that all the 100 beaches get full of sun worshippers and yachties from all over Europe.
