In close proximity to Split there are the islands Brač, Hvar, Šolta und Čiovo that you can explore easily with your boat, too.
Within the walls of Diocletian's Palace you can find a lot of Split's historical and cultural buildings. Additional cultural attractions in Split are the National Theater, a couple of different old churches and numerous museums. Besides, a walk to the hill Marjan is strongly recommended because it offers a beautiful view over the city and the landscape around Split including the mountains. Moreover, it is a natural park with a zoo and a children's playground that is attractive for small kids.
In the evenings you should visit the square near the bell tower inside the Diocletian's Palace. Here you can listen to local musicians who entertain the tourists and habitants. You have the possibility to enjoy the music in a romantic atmosphere and your drink right under the night sky in Split.
