Sea Weather Turkey
The coastal regions of Turkey have typical Mediterranean climate with hot summer and mild winter. In July and August, air temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius are possible. The average air temperature is in January 0 degrees Celsius and in August 23 degrees Celsius. The water temperature in summer is 25-28 degrees Celsius. Most rains fall during the winter months. The best time for a sailing holiday is before the high season (from May to June) as well as after the high season (in September and October). Because of the mild air and water temperatures, the eastern Mediterranean can be an ideal sailing area even in late December. In summer the winds blow mostly from the north. In the lee of high mountains strong squalls are to be expected. Strong Meltemi can occur in summer and make it some more difficult to sail along the western coast to the north.
