The waters around Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera are perfect for sailing all over the year and definitely one of the highlights for each sailor. This sailing region is much beloved among sailing and motor boat crews because of its stable climate, the beauty of the landscapes and the friendliness of the island inhabitants. There numerous international regattas which take place in the watres around the Balearic Islands every year and attract many sailing professionals as well as observers from all over the world. The most famous are: the Cup of the Princess Sofia, which regularly takes place in the Easter week, and the Cup of the King or Copa del Rey in the bay of Palma, normally taking place in the beginning of August. Copa del Rey is not only a sportive highlight, but also the most important society happening of the island summer. Many celebrities including the Spanish royal family come to see this sailing event.
