Mediterranean Balearic Islands
Turquoise blue waters like here in a Cala of Menorca (Baleares) are characteristic for secluded bays along the Mediterranean coast.
Not least the Mediterranean is well known among boaters for its turquoise waters and high transparency. Dangerous species like in tropical waters are virtually absent. Therefore swimming and snorkelling by just jumping overboard is always a safe and great experience. By the way: The awesome look of the Mediterranean waters is due to its low level of nutrients. This is provided by the strait of Gibraltar where Atlantic surface water that is low in nutrients is streaming into the Mediterranean in order to compensate the evaporation losses.
