Peloponnese - Elafonissos Port
Peloponnese - View from the ferryboat jetty into the port of Elafonissos
For a sailing cruise in the Peloponnese, you can charter a yacht in Athens, where you will find a big range of good charter companies. Sailing across the Saronic Gulf you will pass by the islands Poros, Hydra and Speteses, which are picturesque and popular among tourists, however, do not reflect the simple puristic charm of the Peloponnese. The port towns Portoheli and Nafplion in the Argolic Gulf with big resort hotels, which are populated by holidaymakers from Athens in summer, are accordingly disaffected.
The first highlight of the cruise is the small town Leonidion, situated on the eastern coast of the Peloponnese, some few sea miles away from Spetses. When anchoring in front of the clean town beach with crystal-clear water, you will feel the peaceful atmosphere of this small town and the beginning of your holidays. Sailing further to the south, you will be amazed by more highlights, such as the authentic small town Kiparissi, probably the most remote and the most beautiful place of the Peloponnese with the gorgeous shingle beach in front of the mountainous background. Geraka is small fisher town lying in the end of a long fjord. Going ashore there, you will literally fall into a tavern!

Peloponnese Monemvasia
Peloponnese - The old town of Monemvasia
Another highlight of your cruise will definitely be Monemvasia with its gorgeous Byzantine-Venetian old town castle on the prominent rock in front of the coastline. Between Neapolis and Githion, the two port towns in the Laconian Gulf, you will find numerous natural bathing bays. Especially picturesque are the sand bays of the small island Elafonissos, that are sparkling in a Caribbean blue. At good wind conditions it is worth to anchor there for some days and make an excursion to the small twee town Elafonissos, which will welcome you with its numerous taverns, restaurants and bars. A further destination of your cruise could be the island Kithira some 14 sea miles to the south from Neapolis. The myths say that the island was the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty.
Dedicated charter crews would probably want to sail round the whole Peloponnese, exploring the region Messinia on the western coast, turning into the Gulf of Corinth in Patras and sailing back to the Saronic Gulf through the Corinth Canal. However, it may also be great to sail back the same way along the eastern coast to deepen your fresh impressions of this beautiful coastline.
