Corfu Island
Island Corfu famous for its picturesque views
Corfu has the total area of 641 square metres and is the second biggest of the Ionian Islands. In the north-west, it is separated from the Albanian coast just by a narrow strait. In the medieval times, the island was known under the name “Drepane” (meaning sickle) because of its sickle-shaped form.
Not only because of its numerous sand beaches, but also because its diversified vegetation, the island is very much beloved. When exploring Corfu with a rental car or scooter, one will be amazed by the various cactuses, fern plants and of course olive groves passing by on his way. The impressive range of plants also includes cypresses, sycamore and pine trees, acacias as well as orsnge and lemon trees. Do not forget to honk the horn when driving in the narrow curves to warn those who come from the opposite direction. The excellent raod network of Corfu belongs to the best in Greece.
Especially in the northern end of the island, sailing crews will find fantastic long sand beaches.
If you like the Greek cuisine, there are some places on Corfu where you can taste culinary delicacies. For example the “George’s tavern” on the Acharavi beach in the northern part of the island, where you should taste the delicious tzaziki, fresh fosh and seafood. The tavern belongs to the family Vlachopopoulos and offers great atmosphere and very good service!
