Marina Baska Voda - A Well Kept Secret of the Dalmatian Coast

Location & Approach
The marina of Baska Voda is “hidden” away between some great white pebble beaches in Baska Voda, a town on the Croatian coast, in the southern part of the Adriatic. Small and out of the way, the marina is nevertheless a beautiful escape from the usual busy and noisy Mediterranean marinas that are getting more crowded with each year with enthusiasts.

Baska Voda is a former fishing village now turned holiday resort, just 50km away from Split, the major transport hub of this part of Croatia, responsible for the arrival of the most tourists. The marina is just minutes from the city center, which is definitely a plus for those seeking a restaurant, club or just something to visit since everything is within walking distance.

The coordinates for the marina are 43°21,3’N 016°56,7’E which would position the small marina within the small bay around which the city is located. Among the hazards the skipper has to look out for is a safety net located 1 nautical mile southeast of the city at about 100 meters from the shore for bathing safety purposes.

The small harbor is protected by two breakwaters, one longer at about 200m positioned parallel to the shore and thus providing perfect protection from the winds and the waves, and a smaller one perpendicular to the shore, closing in and forming the entry point to the marina which faces the southeast and which is marked by warning lights for incoming vessels. Inside the marina, the water depth reaches a maximum of 5 meter.

Infrastructure & Ambience
The marina has a very limited number of berths so it would be wise to book in advance in case you want to stay longer to enjoy the Dalmatian coast. Just 40 moorings are available at this marina but they’re pretty well stocked with water and an electricity supply. The guests also gets access to toilets and showers, as well as parking facilities.

Additional services include a post office, a pharmacy and an outpatient clinic. The rest of the service pack is pretty basic, which is understandable given the size of the marina. But again, the sailor can benefit from the proximity of the town and take advantage of the shops, restaurants, banks and sporting facilities there, since everything in Baska Voda is within walking distance.

Also in Baska Voda you’ll find plenty of accommodation opportunities, ranging from fancy hotels to holiday apartments, according to your budget or  the size of your group. This location is a perfect stopover point for expeditions along the Makarska Riviera.

Since the area is famous for its clean pebble beaches, its azure waters and its unspoiled scenery made up mostly of deep green pine forest covering like a thick blanket the rolling hills of the Dalmatian countryside, Baska Voda is a real peaceful and quiet alternative for the busy resort town of Split.

In fact, Baska Voda is located in what is considered one of the most visually attractive parts of the Makarska Riviera, a stretch of Croatian coastline named so because of its unspoiled beauty, calm, clean waters and small fishing hamlets turned into quiet tourist resorts.
