Location & Approach With a privileged position in western Croatia on the Istrian peninsula, marina Rovinj sees a lot of traffic throughout the year. Just 1km from the town center of Rovinj, just southeast of the port, the marina also enjoys the benefit of holding the Blue Flag achievement as a testament of its quality standards.
The Istrian peninsula in general is a busy zone, frequented by a big number of vessels since it holds some of the most important Croatian resorts which dominate the north Adriatic yachting tourism. That, and the proximity to the Italian peninsula, play an important role in the development of the Istria region for touristic purposes.
As previously mentioned, the position of the marina can be considered a privileged because not only is it on the “main highway” that crosses the Croatian shore, but it also benefits from extra protection from winds and currents by the St Katarina Island, located just off the coast to the west.
With the coordinates of 45°04'N, 13°38'E, Rovinj marina is further protected from a long, semicircular concrete breakwater to the southwest which houses 3 piers, adding to the other 5 smaller piers perpendicular to the coast, thus affording the marina a decent number of berths.
The head of the breakwater is marked with red flashing lights warning incoming skippers. The general direction of the approach is from Katarina Island in the north, in the space between the island the town. Care must be taken because there is a shoal here that is marked with a yellow-black conical buoy which has to be rounded from the north. When coming from the south, from the other side of the St. Katarina island, the marina breakwater is marked with a green flashing lights.
Infrastructure & Ambience The marina is a medium-sized, with 380 berths and 40 dry docks, all equipped with water supply and electricity connection. The fact that it’s close to town affords the guest further options and facilities, but the marina is already pretty well stocked. There is a reception office, an exchange office, a restaurant, toilet and shower facilities, parking, a grocery shop, a nautical gear shop and repair facilities.
The repair shop can perform numerous tasks, with the aid of a 10t crane, a slipway and a gas station that’s located 500m away. A neighboring boatyard near the town harbor can perform further and more complex repairs.
The town and the overall region of Rovinj are characterized by plenty of green, especially pinewoods while maintaining its medieval look. The tourists can enjoy a multitude of restaurants, night venues including numerous bars, cinemas, clubs and even a casino. In the nearby region of the marina, you’ll also find sport and self-care facilities such as saunas and spas.
