Zea Marina – Great Starting Point for Your Perfect Greece-Cruise

Location & Approach
This conveniently located marina can be found on mainland Greece, in Piraeus, one of the busiest harbor in this part of the Mediterranean. More precisely, the Zea Marina is located on the eastern shore of the Peninsula of Piraiki. It can be recognized easily by the almost circular bay in which it stands, offering maximum protection to the mooring vessels, since the opening to the sea is very narrow.

The busy Pireaus harbor (Passalimani) is located on the other side of the peninsula, to the west, but the bay in which the marina sits is marked by a second harbor, called the External port or Freatida. This makes the marina easier to spot, since it can be seen just west of this last port.

Although the natural setting is perfect for storing boats, the Zea marina extends further out to sea past the small bay with two breakwaters, a long, perpendicular one across the mouth of the bay and a smaller one which sits perpendicular to the shore line, closing in the narrow entry. The first on is marked with flashing red lights (6 second intervals) and the small one with green lights to warn oncoming sailors.

Connections to the marina are facilitated by the proximity of such a large city as Piraues, which has a ferry port which connects with many islands in the Aegean Sea, and also airport connections (the marina is 44km from Athens International Airport, a major transport hub for tourists).

Infrastructure & Ambience
Zea marina has a satisfying number of berths in its 5000 sq m surface. There are 670 berths along permanent and floating pontoons which are distributed according to the size of the boat. The marina offers moorings for periods up to 20 years for boats up to 80m in length and 8 meter draft. All the berths have water (fresh and drinking) and electricity connections (both 220 and 380V), with the addition of security for the permanent moorings.

While it does not poses a dry dock, Zea marina does offer a wide range of technical repair and maintenance services which include mechanical, electrical, electronic, carpentry, sail repair and upholstery. In addition, the skipper can hire diver services for underwater repairs at the reception office.

The guest is offered a wide range of services which make this particular marina one of the best equipped in the country: commercial shops, car and motorboat rental, restaurants, bars and café, a police station office, a fuel station, weather report service, postal service, Wi Fi access, public telephones, shower and toilet facilities, a laundry service, medical assistance and the list could go on.

Keep in mind that whereas in other places, you’d have to go into town to get certain services, the marina waterfront in Piraeus is one of the livelier places in town where people come to enjoy a good meal, a good time and a good view. parties who dock here will be amazed at the overall atmosphere.

The Piraeus region is a good place for a sailing vacation. Why is that? Well, because it not only has a great marina infrastructure that offers top of the line services, but it’s also a perfect location for starting trips into the Saronic Gulf and the Cyclades islands, some of the most appreciated destinations in Greece. On top of that the city of Piraeus itself offers great opportunities for a great time on land.
