Location & Approach Right across from the town of Preveza in the Gulf of Amvrakikos lies the Cleopatra marina. As the name of the location entails (don’t be fooled by the marina’s name), the location is Greece, western Greece to be precise, in a location that sees much traffic throughout the year.
The marina’s location is probably its best asset, considering that the base facilities aren’t top of the line. The coordinates of Cleopatra marina are 38° 57' N and 20° 45' Eon the tip of the peninsula opposite the town of Preveza. Just east of the tunnel that crosses the bay, the marina can be easily spotted on the generally low coastline, due to the number of boats stored on land and the nautical facilities.
The approach is made difficult by the currents of the canal generated by the vast water mass of the neighboring Ionian Sea, by some shallow parts along the coast and also by the traffic in the region. This is due to the ships coming to the Cleopatra Marina and to the Preveza marina, on the other side of the bay.
Infrastructure & Ambience Actually, Cleopatra marina is more like a boatyard, rather than a classic marina, simply because of the large array of heavy duty boat fixing equipment. Although there are no berths here, there are however around 400 places to store your boat on land. These spaces are equipped much like a normal berth would be, with electricity and water access. In addition, the spaces larger than the normal berth, having around 4-5 m of space around the boat to allow for repairs.
And speaking of repairs, this marina has extensive equipment to provide you with a long range of services: hauling and launching your ship, boat wintering and maintenance, electrical and mechanical repairs, carpentry, polishing, sail maintenance and many more. It’s like a spa for your boat.
To these, the marina offers a series of basic services to its customers. These include drinking water, a bar/restaurant, Wi Fi, a gas station, laundry, waste collection, a car rental service, a market, a service station, showers and toilet as well as a secured parking lot. On the site of the marina, the sailor will also find a couple of chandleries and other nautical shops, as well as authorized dealers from a number of companies such as Quicksilver or Yamaha.
Preveza is a lovely area to sail around not just for the numerous marinas and the relative accessibility, but also for the great number of sights worth checking out. The whole coast oddly exudes a distinct Italian feel, due to the proximity of the boot-shaped peninsula, but there are also clear Ottoman influences from the time this stretch of land fell under their influence.
