Rovinj - The Picture Perfect Holiday Resort
It's hard not to fall in love with this town, especially after seeing its beauty and having experienced its charm firsthand. Numerous islands, a varied wildlife and old-world architecture make this a favourite destination for Croatian and Italian tourists
General Info
One of the nine towns of the Istria County, Rovinj sits on a peninsula on the Northern Adriatic coast that used to be an island up until 1763. The entire coast region is littered with islands and islets and Rovinj is no exception, having a small archipelago out at sea bearing the same name, made up of 22 islets.
As most settlements along the Adriatic, Rovinj was inhabited from ancient times, which would explain today’s architecture made up of fortifications and Italian influences when it came to the buildings’ layout. Today it acts as a summer resort and Yacht Charter destination.
Travel & Arrival
The nearby airport of Pula acts as a destination point for the Yacht Charter visitors flying in. Just 30 km separate the tourists from their landing place to the beaches in Rovinj. The drive back takes about 40 minutes by car, but you’re not advised to drive here as cars are not allowed in the old city center.
The closest highway for all the Yacht Charter drivers out there is the A1, but in order to get to Rovinj, you have to get off where the highway meets the A8 road which will lead you straight to the coast town.
The city is also accessible by boat, many people sailing here with their Yacht Charter crews, as Rovinj has a modern marina to cope with not only your needs but also the needs of your boat. Another thing you should keep in mind is that there are daily ferries leaving here to Venice, with the trip lasting just 2 hours, in case you want to make a day trip and see Italy's coast.
Avant & Apres Sail
Since cars are not allowed within the city walls, most of the exploring you and your Yacht Charter group will do will be on foot or on bikes (they are available for hire in town). The main landmarks for curious Yacht Charter guests are the Balbi Arch (the old entrance to the city), Valdibora market, the famous St. Euphemia cathedral, the artists street of Grisia and, as always, the harbor.
Shopping in this Yacht Charter location is centered around food, be it truffles or truffle oil, fish (sold directly from boats), fruit and vegetables, you can be sure it’ll be always fresh. The place to remember is Valdibora market. Carrera street is a pedestrian street where you’ll find many jewelry and souvenir shops, boutiques and art galleries.
Being so close to the Italian Riviera, the city’s cuisine has a lot of recipes you would normally find in an Italian restaurant: risotto, pasta, pizza. But there are also many establishments that serve Istrian cuisine. Most recipes the famished Yacht Charter client will encounter rely on fish, mussels and crabs, but there are also more “wholesome” dishes such as smoked ham, sauerkraut with sausages, pilaf and scrambled eggs with asparagus. Local wines should complete your menu as they are high-grade but reasonably priced.
All the nightlife entertainment is located in a multimedia center called Monvi. Here the tired Yacht Charter sailors can find a night club, an open-air theater, bars and restaurants. Regular concerts are held here with both local and international bands.
Events & Actions
Renowned for its beneficial climate conditions, this Yacht Charter resort is sought by many guests for medicinal purposes. Sport and open-air activities such as hiking, bike riding and horseback riding come to meet the tourists’ needs. Also, there’s always the option of sailing to the Rovinj archipelago.
Numerous exhibitions and displays are held in Rovinj by local and international artists, concerts and open-air theater plays are staged almost every night during the summer season. Fishermen fiestas take over the harbor on weekend trying to win over Yacht Charter parties with sounds, colors and aromas.
