Palau – The Ideal Starting Point for a Sailing Trip Across the Maddalena Archipelago
Are you looking for an international atmosphere and an impressive scenery? If so, Palau is waiting for you! The panorama of the bizarre rocky coastline of the offshore Maddalena Archipelago and interesting guests make Palau an attractive spot for charter tourists.

General Info
It’s hard not to fall in love with the rugged and beautiful coastline of northern Sardinia, where time seems to have stood still a long while ago. It in these waters of the central Mediterranean, close to Corsica, that you’ll find the Yacht Charter resort of Palau.

Located about 220km north of Cagliari and 30km northwest of Olbia, Palau lays in the Olbia-Tempio province on granite shores that offer a myriad of secluded bays but also form strange formations such as the Capo d’Orso, which has since become a Yacht Charter attraction and oddity.

Travel & Arrival
Due to its strategic position on the north shore of the island, you’ll find that the small town of Palau is easily accessible from land, air or water. By air, the closest airport is the one in Olbia, which provides Yacht Charter tourist access to the entire Costa Smeralda region. The approximate distance is 45km due south, a trip that under normal circumstances should take no longer than 40 minutes.

By land, there are numerous bus services that link this part of the island with the most important cities in the south and on the east and west coasts, like Sassari or Cagliari, which is an important Yacht Charter port and nautical node.

Being an island, you’ll find that the easiest access to Sardinia is by ferry, since the island is very well connected both with the Italian mainland as well as with the neighboring islands. Ferries carry Yacht Charter visitors and locals to and from such destinations such as Genoa, Napoli or Porto Vecchio.

Avant & Apres Sail
Facing towards the strait of Bonifacio, the granite shores of Palau dominate the shoreline to offer the Yacht Charter enthusiast a great view. It’s here that you’ll find the imposing and somewhat strange rock formation called the Bear’s Head (Capo d’Orso). Among the man-made attractions, you can visit any of the archeological sites in the countryside, such as the Giant’s Tomb, or the military fortifications which were used to defend the strait in the past centuries.

Coming to Sardinia is an experience in itself, but Yacht Charter aficionados are certainly going to enjoy the cuisine here, which is distinctively different from the one in mainland Italy, mostly due to the island’s isolated position. However, the restaurants in town do serve traditional Italian dishes, as well as some international dishes. As is the case with most coastal towns in Sardinia, Palau offers a wide variety of seafood recipes. Most of the restaurants are located on the streets around the harbor.

The nightlife isn’t that well developed but there are a number of bars and clubs that stay open late to provide Yacht Charter groups of sailors with cold drinks and generally a good time.

Events & Actions
Sailing is definitely a worthwhile experience here, as the shore alternates from high to low, from populated to deserted very quickly. Also, the Yacht Charter skipper and his crew will find the La Maddalenna islands just to the northeast, which are considered a green oasis by many Italians coming here on vacation.

The town offers a very nice selection of beaches, some very secluded in small bays, perfect for those Yacht Charter holidaymakers seeking solitude and intimacy. There are also diving and sailing schools in town so you can enlist in case you’re not familiar with either.
