Yacht Charter Nyköping

Sweden / Nyköping - Weekend Escape for Stockholmers
Far gone are the days Nyköping was the place of bloody battles and succession wars. Today the town enjoys the quiet days by the sea, oblivious to the passage of time, and invites you to do the same during your stay here.

General Info

This sleepy and beautiful town is hard to define. Just 100 km south from the hustle and bustle of city life that is Stockholm, Nyköping manages to hold on to that rustic fishing village feel that seems to attract modern-day Robinson Crusoes and Yacht Charter lovers.

The small administrative capital of the Södermanland county lies directly where the Nyköping River flows into the Baltic Sea and is surrounded by several smaller town like Stigtomta, Nävekvarn and Jönåker.

Acting also as a port, this deceptively quiet city famous among Yacht Charter crews has had a long and sometimes violent history, the only remnant of that being Nyköping Castle, today just a tourist attraction and a museum, but back in the Middle Ages it was Sweden’s main means of defense against invaders.

Travel & Arrival
Nyköping takes benefit from its proximity to the Stockholm-Skavsta international airport to attract foreign Yacht Charter guests. Just 7.50 kilometers separate the airport from the city, a mere 12 minute ride by car. This means that flying in would be the easiest way to get to Nyköping.

The road access to and from the city is made via the European road E4 which passes by the city. Bus access is available, with Swebus Express making runs from numerous cities in Sweden and Denmark. In order to attract greater Yacht Charter sailor numbers, the town’s officials have decided that people coming to Nyköping don’t need to pay parking fees, but in order to benefit from that you must get a tourist pass.

Another way to get to Nyköping is by train. The town’s central station gets 26 daily runs from SJ, Sweden’s national train company, so you should be able to find at least one train that suits your needs or preferences.

Avant & Apres Sail
Apart from the old castle, the rebuilt Nyköpinghus that was first erected in the 12th century, there is also another old castle, 30 km north of Nyköping, Nynäs, which is open during the summer months and also has an “Orangerie” where your Yacht Charter crew can enjoy a cup of coffee or purchase plants and flowers.

The people in Nyköping also pride themselves with the local library, Culturum, a location that doubles as a concert and conference center while picking up a few awards for its unusual architecture. Some of the incoming Yacht Charter groups might also appreciate the 12th century church of St. Nikolai.

Shopping is mainly centered on the one-kilometer long Storgatan Street which is full of designer boutiques and clothes shops. This part of the city has been known to be the right place to rub elbows with Swedish celebrities.

For all the Yacht Charter gourmets out there, some of the things you should definitely try while in Nyköping are the herring burgers, freshly grilled in the market square and the lamb rack on white china being served in the harbor as local specialties. By the river there are establishments that serve a more varied menu, such as Indian food or fish and chips.

Events & Actions
Being a quintessential maritime settlement, Nyköping prides itself with its harbor and the way it caters to Yacht Charter seamen. A wide range of water activities can be found here, but sailing has to be at the very top and to testify to that, there are numerous boat charter companies that operate in Nyköping.

Boaters coming here should definitely take the time to visit the Stockholm Archipelago. Some people come up here just for that and sail through the labyrinth of islands for days on end.

Other activities include golfing, on the 36-hole golf course that is just 5 minutes from the city, horse-riding on the 500 kilometers of back trails, biking and hiking. Although is it considered by many a great holiday destination, Nyköping is still expanding its tourist industry so there should be some interesting developments here in the years to come.
