Yacht Charter Lavrion

Lavrion Port View
Lavrion - Departure Port For the Cyclades
Once a wealthy town, the old town centre of Lavrion is shaped by neo-classical façades. Lavrion is the ideal starting port for the yacht charter Cyclades. The island Kea is only a few sailing hours away.

General Info
60 km from Athens towards the southeast, in Greece’s Attica region lays a port city called Lavrio that in ancient times used to be famous for the silver mines that were the main money incomes for the Athenian state. Today, the city and its harbor are mostly known to the Yacht Charter community as a attractive summer resort.

The modern city sits by a bay which overlooks the beautiful island of Makronisos. The port is still the main attraction for Lavrio and it sits at the edge of the narrow street network which forms the center of the town. During summer months the population increases triple fold thanks to the Yacht Charter crowds.

Travel & Arrival
Being so close to the country’s capital, the city of Lavrio benefits from the biggest airport in Greece, Athens International, which is just 37km to the north. Driving into town takes around 40 minutes for the Yacht Charter sailors who have a car waiting for them. There are also shuttle buses and taxis which make the trip.

Those Yacht Charter people who drive into Greece need only follow the E94 road which passes by the airport and then continue down south. There are only two main roads leading in and out of Lavrio so you can’t really get lost.

The harbor is home to a series of companies which make ferry trips to the neighboring islands of Kea and Kynthnos for those Yacht Charter crewmen who wish to travel on.

Avant & Apres Sail
Being such an old and important town, you can expect to find lots of historical sights in and around Lavrio. Probably the most famous and the one that draws in the most Yacht Charter tourists is the Temple of Poseidon, or better said, its remains. Then, of course, there are the ancient tunnels which today actually house the town’s Museum of Mineralogy.

When you finish visiting the temple, you can grab a bite to eat with your Yacht Charter friends at one of the many taverns which can be found on temple hill. Most of the establishments serve varieties which fall under the Cretan cuisine label, regarded as very healthy and nutritious using as main ingredients olive oil, green vegetables, herbs and of course, sea food.

At night, just like many other cities in Greece, you’ll find that the city comes alive with the sound of live music coming from a number of bars and clubs. The Yacht Charter tourists and locals alike come out in the cool night air to enjoy themselves.

Events & Actions
Wherever you are in Greece, you’re never too far away from the beach and Lavrio is no exception. Here, you can lay on the sandy beaches all day with your Yacht Charter group and have the added bonus of picking up a few minerals washed up on the shore by the clear waves. Water sports like windsurfing and kitesurfing are also common activities for those with a more active vacation in mind.
