Spain / Ibiza Town - The Party Capital of the World
Ibiza Town is a vibrating mixture of Mediterranean ambience and hip nightlife. Those who head for Ibiza should be able to get by with little sleep!
General Info
The locals call it Eivissa in Catalan, but to the hoards of Yacht Charter tourists coming here literally from all over the Globe, it’s known as Ibiza, the summer party capital of the world and home to best parties this side of the Mediterranean.
Ibiza town is the main town on the homonymous island, located on the southwest corner. Ibiza is actually the third largest island of the Balearics, a known and sought after Yacht Charter tourist destination that manages to draw in especially younger visitors due to the wild nightlife.
Travel & Arrival
Most Yacht Charter visitors travel to Ibiza by plane, meaning that the locals set up a very efficient airport right on the island, which caters to some 4 million passengers every year and is located 7km from the town itself. It’s connected to the town by a bus service or by taxi. There are direct links to many European cities using Air Europa, Iberia, Air Berlin, Condor, Easyjet or German Wings.
The link with the peninsula is made by ferry services running from Barcelona, Valencia and Denia, all major cities along the Spanish coast. Also, there are ferries carrying Yacht Charter groups to the other Balearic islands of Formentera and Mallorca. As always, the trip can be also made in a privately chartered boat which can be moored at the local marina, located 5 minutes from the city center.
Avant & Apres Sail
Though the old town has been entered in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the main reason and what can safely be considered the biggest attraction are the man beaches that stretch all round the island. For those Yacht Charter that are also curious about the town’s history, the old part of town does maintain that antique look, with its cobbled, narrow streets and buildings that date back to as early as the 10th century. Locally, it’s referred to as D’Alt Vila and you can’t miss it since it’s quite unique in appearance.
What can be said about the shopping in Ibiza? Well, it’s different from anything you’re used to find in a typical Yacht Charter resort, that’s for sure. Due to the colorful crowds that populate the town during the warm season, the locals have adapted their merchandise so that now you can find both modern and traditional shops that sell a wide assortment of products, including adlib fashion, jewelry, handicrafts. For the pickier shoppers, there are also designer boutiques where you can purchase expensive clothes and accessories.
Fish is always on the menu in Ibiza and it’s always fresh. You’ll find many foreign influences due to the large number of cultures that have come and gone by here. Among the most tasty dishes you’ll find the “bullit de peix” (stewed fish and potatoes), “ensalada de crostes” (salad from hard bread and dry fish), and paella with “sobrassada and botifarro” (spicy sausages). The best place to eat out is round the harbor and in the old town.
The nightlife in Ibiza should, by all rights, get its own article but we’ll try to cover the basics and let you Yacht Charter enthusiasts explore the rest. There is a reason why some of the world’s best parties, with the biggest crowds and the most famous DJs are held here. Of course, some find the all night partying and the hoards of drunk young tourists a bit too much, so if you’re not into that, then Ibiza is probably not the best place to bring your family.
Events & Actions
Believe it or not, but Ibiza is not all about wild parties that last for days on end. There is actually a big cultural life in town and it’s showcased by some of the events that do manage to grab the eyes (and hearts) of some of the Yacht Charter adventurers. Among the most popular are the Carnival, the Medieval Festival, the night of Sant Joan, the Creativity Exhibit, the Gastronomical Week, the Opera nights and the Ibiza Sound Walk.
