Yacht Charter Corsica Porto Vecchio

Corsica Porto Vecchio
Corsica / Porto Vecchio - The Citadel by the Sea
Hidden among the hills of the Corsican south shore, this city reveals itself to those adventurous enough to venture this far. The Mediterranean atmosphere and the excellent conditions that can be found make Porto Vecchio one of the top Corsican travel destinations.

General Info

With its dramatic location by the sea on a hill covered with lush vegetation, any Yacht Charter tourist might be fooled into thinking he’s on the French Riviera. In fact, the small town sits on the southeast corner of Corsica, overlooking a bay where yachts are moored in the marina.

Travel & Arrival

Somewhat secluded from all the major cities of the island, the town has no direct air link with the rest of Europe, meaning that Yacht Charter sailors will have to catch a flight to one of the coastal towns in France like Marseille or Nice and then get by ferry across the Mediterranean. Another choice is to use one of the smaller airports in Corsica (Bastia, Ajaccio or Calvi).

But most tourists arrive in Porto Vecchio by sea, on one of the many ferries that come from France, Italy and other Corsican cities. Like most Yacht Charter destinations, Porto Vecchio too suffers from congestion during the summer season, which means that it’s probably a good idea to leave your car at home. Also, the city’s layout with extremely narrow streets makes it impossible to drive through most parts.

Avant & Apres Sail
The "Borgo" or the old town is the most picturesque part worth visiting with its narrow cobble stone streets and its town square (Place de la Republique) where locals and Yacht Charter guests congregate. Among the historical landmarks in town the church of Saint Jean-Baptiste, the Saint Croix chapel and fortresses and bastions are the ones that attract most of the tourist flow.

Eating out is no problem while in Porto Vecchio. Most of the town’s restaurants and bars are clustered inside the city walls in the main market and on the Rue U Borgu where the view of the marina and the bay is sure to be appreciated by any Yacht Charter enthusiast. Some of the local dishes include boar sausages and cheeses.

Another thing to enjoy while here is the night life, which has been described as “relaxed chic” during the tourist season, meaning it doesn’t get too wild. There is one night club in the old town and another in the southern outskirts of the city.

Events & Activities
The beaches here are said to be the best Corsica has to offer, and again their pristine nature will surely impress any incoming Yacht Charter visitors, with a new cove or bay to explore each day. Some of them are also child-friendly, with shallow waters and lifeguards and the most popular offer water sport lessons and dedicated facilities.

Getting out of Porto Vecchio to see the neighboring countryside does pay off because there are lots of things to visit like the Alta Rocca mountainous region, the Ospedale forest and lake (great for hiking and fishing) and the Bonifacio citadel. All these add up to the activities Yacht Charter crews can enjoy in the resort.
