Yacht Charter Cala d'Or

Cala d'Or
Cala d’Or – Exclusiveness under Green Pine Trees
Cala d’Or is not only one of the most secure ports of Majorca, but also a neat holiday town with a townscape that is even untypical for Majorca.

General Info
Considered by many Yacht Charter visitors to have the best beaches in Mallorca, Cala d’Or is located on the east coast of the island, approximately  65km from Palma. It evolved from a traditional Mallorcan village into the modern resort it s today, all the time expanding and now it covers 4 km of sandy beaches and hidden coves.

Most of the town is made up of buildings painted in the traditional Mediterranean white, typical to the Ibiza area, while the outskirts are made up of private holiday villas. There is a large pedestrian zone in the center, where all the bars, restaurants and shops are massed together which makes it a virtual Yacht Charter tourist magnet.

Travel & Arrival
Though close to the San Joan International Airport in Palma, you’ll find that the transportation to Cala d’Or itself is somewhat troublesome, as the majority of tour operators don’t bother making the transfer from the airport or charge it as an extra. However, you can book a rental car in advance or take a taxi from the airport grounds.

The main road leading into town is the MA-413 but it’s known to have bad sections, which means even short trips end up taking longer than expected. There are regular bus rides from Cala Mondrago, Palma or Puerto de Pollensa, making travelling around the island with your Yacht Charter group a little easier.

Avant & Apres Sail
Since building is severely restricted here, there are few places that attract interest. The most important are the modern marina and the pedestrian region found in the center of the town. These are the places where the Yacht Charter crowds congregate religiously when they’re not on the water. The Castillo de Santueri near the village of S’Horta and the the Aquarium de Mallorca next to the Caves of the Drach are also interesting places to visit.

As far as shopping goes, your Yacht Charter crew should check out the weekly market at Felanitx happening every Sunday morning. This is considered the best market in Mallorca. It’s a good place to grab some locally produced pottery, fruit and other produce. However, you should be prepared to haggle if you want to get the best prices.

If you fancy a dinner out in town, just head on to the pedestrian street downtown and there you’ll find most restaurants which serve an eclectic mix of Spanish, Catalan, Italian and African cuisine, with a couple of establishments which also serve International menus. Cala d’Or is one place where your Yacht Charter gang won’t go hungry.

The nightlife on this side of the island is more on the quiet side. The bars around the marina and the central market are the best you’ll find. Also, some of the local hotels put on shows for their guests, but Yacht Charter sailors will find themselves going to bed past midnight, as most establishments close up by that time.

Events & Actions
The biggest party around here is undoubtedly the Fiesta de la Mare de Deu del Mar (Our Lady of the Sea) which takes place on August 15th and involves a maritime procession near the harbor and some musical manifestations. And speaking of music, some of the Yacht Charter regulars will surely enjoy the Cala d’Or International Jazz Festival, taking place each July.

Among the most popular daytime distractions are sunbathing, sailing in glass-bottom boats along the coast, go-karting and cycling. The Yacht Charter explorers can always check out the Caves of Drach which are open for visits from April to October.
