Baska Voda - A Well Kept Secret of the Adriatic Coast
Exclusive without being overpriced, isolated without being hard to reach and family-friendly without being too boring, Baska Voda is one of those secret places that has not yet reached full recognition or popularity with the Yacht Charter crowds.

General Info
Beginning life as a small fishing village, very much like most of the main Yacht Charter resorts in the Mediterranean, Baska Voda is today one of the more exclusive stretches of beach overlooking the Adriatic. Nestled in between Makarska and Brela to the south, it’s located just miles from Split, the capital of Croatia.

Historically speaking, the town whose name shares some mythological reference to an tribe chieftain who was believed to be Ares’ son, appeared on the Yacht Charter map in the 30s when the Sikavica brothers built the Slavija Hotel. After the Second World War building took on more momentum and Baska Voda became a resort.

Travel & Arrival
Since it’s so close to Split, the best choice of arriving in Baska Voda would be by plane, since the airport in Split services the most part of the Dalmatia coastline. The transfer time would be just over an hour necessary to cover the almost 80km which separate the two locations. A good idea for arriving Yacht Charter groups would be a rental car.

The E65 road is the only major road in the region and has the advantage of running along the coast for great distances. It can be easily followed in either direction and there are bus services catering to this part of the coast, connecting with major cities to the north and south (Dubrovnik and Split), bringing Yacht Charter tourists closer to their destinations.

By water, there is no direct ferry into Baska Voda but there is a small ferry connecting the mainland with the neighboring Brac island. Also, there are plenty of ferries stopping by in Split, the kind that connect with other Yacht Charter resorts on the Adriatic coast, as well as some cities on the Italian peninsula.

Avant & Apres Sail
Though steeped in more than 2000 years in history, there aren’t that many historical places in Baska Voda, and there certainly aren’t any museums. The best thing you’ll get to explore are the pine forests on the Biokovo Mountain slopes. For determined Yacht Charter devotees there is a military fort near the springs of Baska Voda. Also, there are some burial sites from Roman times.

Shopping can only be done in the bigger neighboring towns such as Makarska and Brela, not to mention Split. Here, you can pick up anything from fresh produce sold at the local markets to clothing and designer apparel, a souvenir from your Yacht Charter holiday in Croatia.

The local restaurants and inns offer great specialties but there are also some great fishing hamlets in the region like Bast or Topici where you can sample some of the famous home-made cheese, prosciutto and home-made bread (ispod peke). Fish specialties are present of every menu so you will surely enjoy a fresh fish from the blue waters of the Adriatic.

While there are a couple of bars and clubs in town, most of the evening entertainment is hotel-based and even that is somewhat quiet when compared to some of the other locations along the Dalmatian coast, Baska Voda can be regarded as a quiet Yacht Charter resort, suited for families and nature lovers.

Events & Actions
Basically a quiet location, the resort of Baska Voda does have a few yearly celebrations, like the Feast of St Nicholas which is the town’s patron saint, on December 6th, also the patron saint of travelers and sailors. There’s also the harmony-singing groups of the Makarska littoral which is held on St. Lawrence Day (August 10th) that could be appealing to Yacht Charter visitors.

Activities in the region are split between land and sea. On land you can enjoy tennis, football, handball, table tennis, miniature golf, hiking, while on water there is of course sailing, fishing and diving. Yacht Charter enthusiasts will be happy to know that the town is equipped with a modern marina.
