Beautiful landscape of marina in Alghero
Over centuries, Alghero was a Spanish bridgehead on Sardinia. Today, this town of 40,000 inhabitants situated on Sardinia’s west coast to the south of the extensively unexplored mountains of Nurra, enchants the arriving charter tourists with its nostalgic atmosphere.

A well preserved wall construction gives an impression of how the town might have looked in the Middle Ages. Besides, Alghero is the island‘s oldest seaside resort. Catalan rule of 1354 is the reason why today part of Alghero’s population still speaks a Catalan dialect. Once you have arrived in the picturesque Old Town, which has the largest concentration of hotels on the whole island, by the way, you can amble across the small piazzas and visit some of the numerous churches. Alghero is, in addition, a coral processing centre. Thus, you can primarily see jewellery made of corals in the showcases of the numerous jewellery shops. Those who have enough of walking around can relax on a green lawn in the nearby municipal park or take a look at the city wall. The walls on the shore are well preserved and invite to take a walk from Piazza Sulis to the mighty Bastione della Maddalena. Especially families might have a lot of fun visiting Aquarium Mare Nostrum, the only aquarium on the whole island so far. In the numerous pools, there are not only fishes which you can see under your charter yacht every day, but also exotic species like sharks or piranhas. The aquarium is located in Via XX Settembre 1 and open daily from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 17:00 to 21:00/23:00 pm. The Old Town is within walking distance of the marina, but you can get there by bus as well.
