Lanzarote Island

The view of Lanzarote in Spain

This seemingly rough island was first populated in 1100 B.C. by the Phoenician. In the 15th century, the island was conquered by the Spanish, who have been embossing the architecture and the lifestyle in the towns and villages of the island from then on and until now. The climate on lanzarote is defined by the prevailing trade winds, which continuesly blow from the northern and north-eastern direction over the whole region. The climate on the island is mild with the average air temperature of about 20.5 degress Celsius and seldom rains. Several times a year, the weather phenomenon from the Sahara takes place – dust particles from the Sahara desert are transported to the island through sand sandstorms and strong thermic effects. In thus days, the visibility can fall to some 100 metres. The island was declared to a biosphere reservation area by UNSECO in 1993. There is accordingly so much to see! Spending a day on land, it is worth to see the half-lost crater El Golfer and the fire mountains of the Timanfaya national park. Due to the volcanic origin of the island, all beaches are of black lava sand. Only in the north-western part of the island sailing crews will find dreamlike bays for bathing and snorkelling.
