Turkey - When Europe meets Asia
Turkey offers a lot of possibilities for yacht charter: there’s lovely weather, friendly people and numerous remains of ancient culture. The Turkey Riviera between Cesme and Antalya is famous for its sheltered bays and green coast, while Bodrum and Marmaris offer marina facilities to cater for a wonderful yacht charter Turkey.

General Info

Although it’s quintessential a huge land mass that corresponds to the Anatolian Peninsula, Turkey is bordered by four seas and has up to 8300km of coastline, thus turning it into a Yacht Charter sailor’s paradise. Choose either of the Marmara, Aegean, Black Sea or the Mediterranean shores and you’ll see that they’re all equally beautiful and enticing for any boat lover.

The country is positioned at border between Asia and Europe (the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits have always been a key point in entering the Black Sea) and that’s why it’s an important link between cultures and trade of both continents. Its position allowed it to expand its influence incredibly during the Ottoman Empire period in the Middle Ages.

Today, Turkey is just a very sought after tourist destination due to its wonderful natural landscape (very often untouched by modern man) as it provides the Yacht Charter boatman with the mystique of the Orient while still being close to Europe. Its warm climate makes it the perfect place to spend a holiday at the beach even during the cold season. The shores vary from coves, inlets, bays and beaches, in other words, something for everyone, and the local Yacht Charter companies swear that there’s enough space here for everyone in case you want a secluded bay just for yourself.

Law & Order
Turkish waters are open to all vessels and all persons as long as some rules are respected and official paperwork is done. The good part about sailing in Turkey is that you’ll find lots of anchoring spaces, be it in coastal villages or modern marinas along the coast. All boats sailing in Turkish waters must have a Transit Log (also called a Cruising Permit) containing information about the boat and the Yacht Charter crew. This log is valid for a whole year but becomes void if you leave Turkey.

The permit also provides an inventory of the good on the boat, so in case this changes for whatever reason (boat brakes down and needs repair for example) then any changes should be recorded in the log. This is done to prevent people smuggling while under the Yacht Charter holiday front.

The good news with the Transit Log is that you some Yacht Charter companies actually take care of this for you if you send them the required paperwork in advance. The paperwork actually refers to a complete crewlist and a proof of the skipper’s sailing competence (like a sailing license). That way, there’s no need to cut into your sailing time by doing official business.

For citizens of certain countries, a tourist via when entering Turkey is not mandatory. However, all Yacht Charter tourists must have a valid passport with them and at least 6 months of validity on it upon entering the country. Once in Turkey, you can stay for up to 90 days. When that has expired, you can renew it at any local police station.
