Yacht Charter Paros

Greece Aegean Paros
A very popular destination among the Cyclades, after Santorini and Myconos, Paros lures you to its shores with its old-world look and feel, with lots of fun activities, a long list of historical sites and great sailing conditions.

General Info
Paros is one of the Cyclades Islands, the second largest one in fact, with a total surface of 186 square km and a coastline of 120 km. The reason why it’s such a preferred Yacht Charter destination among local and foreign tourists is the fact that it has a central position, nestled in between Naxos, Ios, Sifnos and Syros. However, its popularity is rivaled by Santorini and Myconos.

The island is home to numerous holiday towns with good condition and wonderful beaches. The capital city is Parikia on the northwest shores, but there are also Naoussa, Lefkes and Marpissa.

Travel & Arrival
Even if the closest airport is Naxos International, most Yacht Charter regulars come via the airport in Athens, which is located 188 km away on the mainland and is accessible by ferry on trips that last just over 4 hours. The main operators here are Olympic Airways and AirSea Lines.

Obviously, the other way of getting on the island is by sea (technically the only one since even people flying in have to take the ferry) and there are local ferry and Highspeed catamaran services available depending on the budget of the Yacht Charter adventurer. The leaving ports are Piraeus, Cyclades and Heraklion. The most important thing to remember s to book ahead as things can get hectic during the tourist season.

Avant & Apres Sail
With Greece being the country of an old civilization, you can bet that there will be a lot for your Yacht Charter party  to see. In Paros there are a lot of old churches or monasteries, like the Panagia Ekantontapiliani (Church of the 100 doors) which is said to have been built by the Roman Emperor’s Constantine the Great mom, St. Helen.

Here on the island of Paros you’ll find those typical Greek houses you see in all the postcards, with the flat rooftops, the whitewashed walls and the blue painted doors and window frames. Just steer your Yacht Charter friends to any of the villages on the island for a true Greek experience.

Also, the island is littered with ancient remnants of temples or marble quarries since the Parian marble was one of the most valuable resources for the settlers who came here in antiquity. A trip around the island with your Yacht Charter sailors will surely reveal at least some of these open-air museums.

When it comes to eating out, the seafront in Parikia is where you want to be. Here, there are tavernas that serve food in the narrow streets near the old town. Some of the local recipes that top out on the list of Yacht Charter tourists preferences are Gouna fish and octopus in vinegar.

After you’re done eating just head out to any of the bars and pubs overlooking the sea to watch the sun go down into the waters. A popular place recommended by many Yacht Charter regulars is the windmill bar by Pandrossos Hotel. As well as wide assortments of local wines, you’ll find popular international drinks that will make your evenings more pleasurable.

Shopping while on a holiday is one of those guilty pleasures no Yacht Charter enthusiast can escape. The locals understand that and provide you with lots of opportunities to spend your money on all sorts of trinkets. In Parikia there are clothes and shoes shops, ceramics, furniture, jewelry and even art. Whatever you think will look good on the shelf in the den back home.

Events & Actions
The island’s most famous and reputed celebration is the Holy Mary festival which consists of song and dance parties during the summer. In fact, most of the events here are religious, and related to some saint in various ways: Birth of the Virgin Mary (September 8th), Saint George (first Sunday after Easter), feast of Saint John (June 26th) and many more scattered during the summer and autumn months.

You’ll probably want to go sunbathing, but our advice to you is never to go to the same beach. There are so many beautiful place out there available to the Yacht Charter public, that it’s worth exploring a new place every day.

A place for the kids but also for the young at heart is the Aqua Park, 15 minutes from Naoussa by boat. The more hardcore Yacht Charter practitioners can indulge in some of the best wind and kite surfing this side of the Mediterranean.
