General Info
A lesser known Yacht Charter resort in the German Baltic Sea, Wendtorf is nothing more than a small, sleepy fishing village in the district Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. With a total surface area of just over 5 sq km, it’s understandable why this is not a known location, but rest assured that once you’re here, you’ll see the potential.
Located at the exit of the Kiel fjord, Wendtorf is set in lovely green back country of farms and fields bordered at the sea by long, sandy beaches which makes a perfect place for that Yacht Charter holiday you’ve been planning with your family.
Travel & Arrival
The price you have to pay for spending time in this small resort is the fact that it’s not easily accessible. For example, the closest airport is in Kiel, about 30km to the west, meaning that the transfer time for a Yacht Charter group travelling by car will be half an hour.
More popular ways of getting to Wendtorf are by land, especially by car, since the German road system is famed throughout the world. The main roads to follow when coming here are the A7 motorway and the A215 Hamburg-Kiel. When you get to Kiel, continue on the east bank of the fjord along the B502 road until you arrive in Wendtorf.
There is also the option of arriving here by train, which is especially popular among Yacht Charter groups arriving from other countries that don’t want to bother with traffic directions. The train to take is the Hamburg-Kiel line. Once in Kiel, take the transfer bus (the 100 line) to Laboe and change direction to Wendtorf.
Avant & Apres Sail
Being such a small city, it’s not the attractions that make Yacht Charter tourists come here, but the peace and quiet and the relaxing atmosphere, so don’t expect to find a thriving metropolis. The biggest attraction has to be the marina and the adjacent beaches since these attract the biggest number of visitors. However, there are some sights in the general area, such as the Schoenberg Railway Museum and the Marina Memorial in Laboe.
Along the bay there’s the waterfront which the locals call the Wendtorferstrand, you can find most of the shops, restaurants and nighttime venues, but there are also a few along the old streets in town. There are also numerous Yacht Charter accommodation facilities which overlook the water.
Events & Actions
A thing that this resort is famed for is the Children’s Adventure Land, one of the reasons it’s a great idea to bring your family along on this Yacht Charter trip. Set in the backcountry, there are plenty of open air acitivities for kids but also for parents to enjoy. There’s golfing, horse riding, hiking and ciclying on land, and on the water there are numerous water sports available in the marina.
